20 Phoenix bars open on Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving Day 2019

Whether you’re looking for a place to escape the family or take the whole clan out for a drink, plenty of metro Phoenix bars will be open and serving beer, wine and spirits this Thanksgiving. 

From Chandler to Goodyear, these 20 bars will be open not only on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28, but also the day before, on Thanksgiving Eve, a day known for drawing big drinking crowds.

Many will open later than usual due to the holiday, so be sure to check for special hours. 

PHOENIX 

Bikini Lounge

Open since 1947, this tiki-themed dive is one of the city’s oldest bars. Bring cash to enjoy cheap drinks and a lively crowd usually made up of young downtown residents. The bar will be open regular hours from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving Day.

Swizzle Inn

The Christmas lights are on year-round at this north Phoenix neighborhood watering hole. Swizzle Inn checks all the dive-bar boxes with a pool table, darts, jukebox and, of course, strong and affordable drinks. The bar will be open regular hours from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and Day.

The Lost Leaf

This Roosevelt Row bar serves mostly beer and wine (plus a selection of cider, mead and sake) and has the genuine bohemian swagger that’s becoming a rarity in downtown Phoenix. On Thanksgiving Eve you can count on live music from local acts and happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. On Thanksgiving Day, keep the good feelings going at the Compliment Deathmatch at 7 p.m. where competitors have 30 seconds to poetically compliment their opponent. The bar will be open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. every day.

Rips Bar

This old-school dive has been a fixture of the East Phoenix neighborhood since the 1950s and remains a haven for punk rockers, youthful hipsters and art lovers alike. The wall are adorned with work from local artists and the drinks are always cheap. Rips will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and Day.

Rosie McCaffrey’s Irish Pub & Restaurant

With a prime location on Camelback Road, Rosie McCaffrey’s brings a little taste of the Emerald Isle to the heart of the Valley of the Sun. Enjoy a pint of Guinness, Harp, Kilkeny or Smithwick’s, all of which are available on tap. Rosie’s will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Valley Bar

This casual underground bar in downtown Phoenix is much larger than it looks from its front door, which is off an unmarked alley. Find pool, shuffleboard, darts and Skee-Ball in the game room, plus a spacious main room and dance floor. The bar will be open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Rustler’s Rooste

You’ll give out-of-towners a taste of Arizona’s cowboy roots at Rustler’s Rooste, a Western-themed restaurant and bar adjacent to the Arizona Grand Resort and Spa. Perched a top a hill, it offers great city views and a fun atmosphere. The restaurant and bar will be open from5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving Eve, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Shady’s

The Little Woody

With three rooms including one with pool tables and leather couches and another offering darts, foosball, shuffleboard and Skee-Ball, there’s something for every one at the Little Woody. The stylish bar is a popular neighborhood hangout so count on seeing young singles and friendly Arcadia neighbors. The bar will be open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Westwood Tap and Grill

While this West Phoenix bar might look like a total dive from the outside, most patrons are surprised at the cleanliness of the interior. You’ll find two pool tables, two dart boards and a jukebox, plus the bar is open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve. The doors open at 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving and stay that way until 2 a.m.

Rum Runners

This Sunnyslope dive is best known for serving complimentary “pirate grub” with the purchase of a drink during happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. On Thanksgiving Day it also will serve a Thanksgiving feast. Rum Runners will be open regular hours from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and Day.

SCOTTSDALE 

Pattie’s First Avenue Lounge

In Oldtown Scottsdale, head to Pattie’s for a refreshing change of scenery and cheap refreshments as well. Dollar bills decorate the walls of this classic dive bar, complete with games and a dance floor. 

Pattie’s stays on schedule with normal hours on Thanksgiving Eve and Day, open from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.

EAST VALLEY 

Casey Moore’s Oyster House

This Tempe institution is popular with students, parents and Tempe residents alike. Its large patio draws a crowd on most nights, as does the solid seafood (everything from fish and chips to fresh oysters). On Thanksgiving Eve the bar and restaurant will be open regular hours from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thanksgiving Day hours are 6 p.m.-2 a.m.

Yucca Tap Room

This Tempe bar and music venue prides itself on offering live music every day of the year and Thanksgiving will be no exception. Open since the 1970s, the bar may be a little worse for the wear but it doesn’t stop college students and music fans of all ages from flocking here. Yucca Tap Room will be open regular hours from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and Day.

Monkey Pants Bar & Grill

You might be drawn to this Tempe bar by the pool tables, shuffleboard, quirky decor or excellent wings. But more likely, you’ll be drawn by the notoriously good karaoke on Wednesday nights. On Thanksgiving Eve and Day the bar will be open regular hours from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Casey’s Woodshed Bar

Always wanted to be a dive bar kind of guy or gal but just can’t quite get on board? Casey’s Woodshed is what you’ve been waiting for. Thanks to a recent renovation this 38-year-old bar has an updated interior but retains its retro feel. On Thanksgiving Eve the bar will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. It will be open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day with karaoke starting at 9 p.m.

Mill Cue Club

If you’re only having one drink at this Mill Avenue bar it has to be the signature 24-ounce Long Island Iced Tea, which costs $6 all day every day. The back room has plenty of pool tables, which can be reserved by the hour. On Thanksgiving Eve the bar will be open regular hours from 7 p.m to 2 a.m. and on Thanksgiving Day, doors will open one hour later than usual, at 8 p.m.

Fibber Magees

This Irish pub has been serving cold pints and corned beef and cabbage in this Chandler neighborhood since 2004. The bar will be open regular hours on Thanksgiving Eve from 11 a.m to 2 a.m. with full menus available. It will be open from 5 p.m. to midnight on Thanksgiving Day serving drinks only.

WEST VALLEY 

Padre Murphy’s

This Irish-pub-meets-sports-bar has 56 beers on tap and off-track betting. It will offer a Thanksgiving buffet from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, as well as a limited food menu. The bar will close on Thanksgiving at midnight. Hours on Thanksgiving Eve will be 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Roman’s Oasis

Grab your boots before you head to this West Valley watering hole where two bars and dance floors offer plenty of space. Country music is the focus, and count on using cash to buy your food and drinks. The bar will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
