After months of teasing fans on social media with snippets of information and construction updates about a new location, one of central Phoenix’s trendiest coffee shops has a new location open near Scottsdale. Lux Max Annex started slinging coffee at 6 a.m. on Monday morning.

Husband and wife team Jeff Fischer and Katie Calahan run the original Lux Central and another location, Lux North, which opened in Flagstaff this July. The new Kierland location is Arizona’s third iteration of the coffee shop.

“When we opened in Flagstaff, a number of our regulars came up to see us,” Fischer told The Republic on Monday. “We’ve had that happen here today.”

What to expect at Lux Max Annex

The new cafe, located close to the Kierland Commons shopping area, offers a full breakfast and lunch menu similar to the central Phoenix location’s food offerings. But a few changes are still in the works, according to Fischer.

The central Phoenix location of Lux boasts a table filled with tantalizing baked goods, a familiar sight fans can find at the new location as well with a similar array of pastries.

One difference? The Kierland location doesn’t serve cocktails. The coffee shop is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, with a slightly earlier closing time on Sundays. Fischer says an exact closing time for Sunday nights has not yet been set.

The new cafe is located on the north side of the Max at Kierland, an office building on Scottsdale Road just south of Bell Road. A post on Lux’s Instagram account directs customers to “look for the pink Deise sculpture.”

That’s referring to Peter Deise, a local artist who also created a metal sculpture that is on display at the Churchill in downtown Phoenix. Art and design are a focal point at the new Lux, just as they are at the two other locations.

Monday marked a soft opening of the new coffee shop, with a grand opening planned for late December or early January.

“We are just waiting on a couple pieces of furniture to complete the interior design,” Fischer says. “Then we want to properly celebrate.”
