This fall seems to be a season for short-lived new businesses. Last week downtown Phoenix’s new nightclub and music venue Track Club closed before it reached one month open. Now, a pair of new concepts have shut their doors.
After opening in early July, Brat Haus in uptown Phoenix closed. An announcement posted to Facebook on Wednesday alerted fans.
A spokesperson for the owner confirmed the restaurant’s closure was due to “low volume resulting in not enough (sales) to sustain the business.”
The uptown restaurant was the second location of the bratwurst and beer spot owned by Dave Andrea. The original Scottsdale location remains open at Fourth Street and Scottsdale Road.
Andrea wrote to fans on Facebook:
We are saddened to announce that after only a few short months, it has been determined that our location at 16th st and Bethany Home will not do sufficient volume to sustain a viable business. We have closed the doors but will continue to do our best to offer the best service, food, and experience at our Old Town location. Gift cards purchased at Uptown will be honored at Old Town. Thanks for your continued support and understanding.
The uptown restaurant was much smaller than the first location, and offered a condensed menu. The location also featured a quick service counter, compared to the Scottsdale location’s full service operations.
The smaller, quick service restaurant was the first of a new model of Brat Haus restaurants Andrea hoped to open, he told The Arizona Republic in July.
In September, shortly following the opening of Brat Haus, Andrea opened another concept next door. The space, which shared a patio and connecting door, housed DoH! an alcohol-infused doughnut and coffee shop.
DoH! took over the space that used to house Everything Bagels at 6025 N. 16th Street.
Both Brat Haus and DoH! are now closed.
