7 people, including several children, shot near Dobson and Guadalupe in Mesa

Mesa Police investigate a multiple shooting, Oct. 17, 2020, in a parking lot near Dobson and Guadalupe Roads, Mesa. At least five people were shot during an incident on Friday evening.

 Seven people, including several children under the age of 18, were shot during an incident in southwest Mesa on Friday evening, police said.

The shooting happened at around 9:30 p.m. in a parking lot near Dobson and Guadalupe Roads, Mesa police spokesman Detective Nik Rasheta said.

Officers found “at least five”   victims at the scene, Rasheta said in an email at about 11:30 p.m. on Fridaybefore the number was updated to seven just before 9 a.m. Saturday.

Rasheta said “some” of the victims were under 18 years old.

One of the victims was in critical condition with a life-threatening injury as of Saturday morning, Rasheta said.

He said police remained at the scene Saturday morning to gather physical evidence and speak to witnesses. Investigators as of Saturday morning believed the shooting was an “isolated incident.”
